Humility in the modern era has been twisted to mean something that it did not mean when the Bible was written. Nowadays it means to do something for someone in order to gain their favor for a later time. But Jesus modelled true humility for us by becoming a man and dying for us, His creation. When Paul exhorts the church in Philippi (and us as well) to have the same mind of Christ, he is telling us to be humble as Christ showed us how to be humble.
