S6E70: Believing God's Mercy (Victory in Faith pt. 4)
On the heels of great victory, often there comes great depression. Why, in our human existance, do great lows follow great highs? When the celebration ends and the cheering stops, why do we feel as if life itself is over? That's what we see today in the reading from 1 Kings. Elijah had just defeated the 400 prophets of Baal, and then he runs away into the wilderness to die. Yet God strengthened him for his journey, and revealed Himself to Elijah and said lovingly, "What are you doing here?" We need to follow spiritual victory with spiritual refreshing, and God has promised that he will never leave us nor forsake us. We can take comfort in believing God's mercy for us today.
(This sermon was preached in 2016 as part of the "Victory in Faith" series based on the life of Elijah but was never released as a podcast. For more sermons in this series, see January 2017 - Believing God's Power, Believing God's Provision, and Believing God's Justice)
