S2E22: By Our Service (Five Promises pt. 3)

We continue our look at the five promises we make to the local church when we become members, and this week we look at what it means to participate by our service.  Our guest speaker Jen Andrade has quite a unique perspective on service, being active in the United Methodist Women and also serving as a missionary in residence to La Palmilla, Mexico.  She delivers quite a strong message, based on Jesus' washing of his disciples' feet.  So grab your Bible, turn it to John Chapter 13, and join our guest speaker as she tells us what it means to support the church by our service.

S8E18: God of Vision (The Attributes of God pt. 5)

Today in the final chapter of the Pentateuch, we examine two of God's attributes: His emanence, and His omniscience.  God's emanence means that he is active in His creation, taking part in the lives of the people He created in His image.  God's omniscience means that God knows all things and sees all things and nothing is hidden from him.  We see both of these on display as God takes Moses up Mount Nebo to show him the promised land, just before Moses died at 120 years old.  And we ask the question:  what is God showing us today?  And are we courageous enough, at any age, to pursue God's vision for His church?

S2E20: By Our Presence (Five Promises pt. 2)

We continue our look at the five ways we participate in ministry.  This week we look at how we participate by our presence.  Presence means being there, and it's more than just showing up.  Paul in his letter to the church at Colosae exhorts the Colossians to be a part of the body of Christ.  We are not called into isolation, but community.  So grab your Bible, turn it to Colossians chapter 3, and join us as we look at how we participate in ministry by our presence.

S2E19: By Our Prayers (Five Promises pt. 1)

We Christians know how important it is to pray.  Jesus Himself taught his disciples to pray, and modelled prayer for us by his very life.  So why do so few of us pray on a regular basis, outside of Sunday worship or mealtimes?  Today we begin a new series based on the five promises we make as United Methodists - to participate in the ministries of the local church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness.  So grab your Bible, turn it to Philippians chapter 4, and join us as we look at what it means to support the church by our prayers.

S2E21: Render Unto Caesar (Wednesday Worship)

Separation of Church and State.  We often hear this phrase thrown around, and frequently today's passage is cited in that context.  But what was Jesus really calling the Pharisees to?  At the heart of the answer to the unanswerable question lies another question: are we truly giving unto God what is God's?  This convicting thought touches the heart of any who truly love God with all their heart, mind, soul and strength.  So grab your Bible, turn it to Matthew chapter 22, and join us as we hear Jesus say to us, "Render unto Caesar."

S8E17: God of Glory (The Attributes of God pt. 5)

One attribute of God that is difficult to define is His glory.  When we think of God's glory we often think of ineffable light.  In today's reading from Exodus, we see that God's glory comes from His presence, and that no one can see it and live.  Instead, we see the glory of God reflected in things around us, in nature, in creation.  We also see God's glory revealed to us in Jesus Christ.  Whereas Moses was only shown the back of God's glory as he passed by, we are able to behold God's glory in full in the incarnation.

S8E16: God of Justice (The Attributes of God pt. 4)

Justice is something that we have been clamoring for in recent times, but oftentimes we find that what we really want is justice for others, and not for ourselves.  In Exodus 20 we find the giving of the Decalogue, what we know of as the Ten Commandments.  These simple rules ought to be easy to follow, and yet we will see that no one in the history of humanity has ever held to this law of God.  In the giving of the law we see the justice of God, for He holds none blameless who do not keep this law.  Yet His justice is satisfied in the sacrifice of Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God, and so in grace we find both justice and mercy served.
