Conforming to the Body of Christ (Romans 12:1-8)

In this, the eleventh part of our "Theology for Ministry" series, we look at how we can become part of the body of Christ.  Paul uses the illustration of the human body with its many parts, and just as the many parts of the human body work in concert with each other, so we as the body of Christ work together to build the Kingdom of God here on earth, and we each have a part.

Are We Complacent? (John 15:4)

It's good to be in worship every week.  But when worship becomes routine, we lose sight of the object of our worship and we become complacent in our faith.  Our guest speaker Kyle Clement reminds us of this, and gives us ways to keep our faith alive and vibrant.

The Place of Israel, Part 2 (Romans 10:5-15)

Jesus told the woman at the well that "Salvation is of the Jews."  Of course, that was before he gave his own life for the sins of the world.  In today's message, the apostle Paul tells us that salvation is available to anyone who wants it, and that God has made it very simple for us, according to his abundant grace.  But what does it mean to confess with our mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in our hearts that God raised him from the dead?  It is a simple thing God requires of us, but it is not easy.

The Place of Israel, Part 1 (Romans 9:1-5)

In chapter nine of his leter to the Romans, Paul takes a departure from speaking on God's grace and our salvation, and turns his attention to the people of Israel.  The apostle Paul was born a Jew of the tribe of Benjamin.  So it would stand to reason that he would have great concern over his people and their salvation.  This week we begin a two-part subseries to our Theology for Ministry series called The Place of Israel, and we will look at how the Jews receive God's grace, even today.

The Pearl of Great Price (Matthew 13:31-33,44-52)

We take a slight departure from our sermon series, Theology for Ministry, to look at some of the parables of Jesus that describe the Kingdom of Heaven.  Jesus used these simple stories to illustrate what the Kingdom of Heaven is like, to those of us who do not have the benefit of seeing it for ourselves... at least, not yet.  Of course, we can trust the words of Christ as authoritative in this regard, because he had firsthand knowledge of the Kingdom of Heaven himself.

Joining Creation’s Song (Romans 8:26-39)

It's a mistake to think that coming to Christ will automatically exempt us from the bad things that happen in life. We are never promised an easy life for coming to Christ.  We have to endure hardships just like everyone else.  But the difference is, we have faith that God is always in control, and that our suffering is just for a season.  This week we look at one of the greatest and hardest promises in the Bible, the promise of Romans 8:28.
